Original EQ was more than walking up hill both ways. |

I came across this link on Allakhazam: http://everquest.allakhazam.com/history/patches.html. It mentions the significant patch messages of the first seven or so years of EQ. Some of these changes I had heard of but most I had not. They not only walked up hill both ways, but did it simultaneously in the summer time heat, heavy rain, deeps snow, a blizzard, with frogs and owl bear dung falling on them, impassable rivers, and more. A few of the patch notes of interest to me were:
- Plane of Sky is introduced (Jan.) (2000). I didn't realize a lot of apparently original zones were actually added early on in EQ development.
- /hidecorpse and /fastdrop commands introduced (July 19 & Aug. 1)(2000). Many commands I use frequently were not there at inception.
- Rangers can now sort and filter tracking system (Feb. 21) (2001) Basic stuff I could not live without was not always there.
- Planes of Power goes live (Oct. 21) (2002) And I hear that Al'Kabor still has not beaten POP? And most or all of the other expansion release dates are there also.
- Raid invites can be done across zones (Oct. 27) Maybe this is why Orruar was reported to be a cranky dude.
And on and on. |

Surprised they never mentioned when you could have more than 2 bags open at one time. Probably the best change ever made. Some good ones...
NO RENT items adopt the 30-minute rule
Items can be moved inside containers while in bank
Characters now say "Hail Playername" instead of just "Hail"
Taunt now affects NPCs above the player's level
"Light Blue" /consider is introduced
/targetgroupbuff is introduced
The short-lived "Project M" is introduced, where players can spawn as monsters (I have a bunch of screenshots from trying Project M on beta. Here's one).
Graphic upgrades are announced for Luclin
Server population counts become hidden
Planes of Power flags can be done out of order
/makeleader command introduced & LD group member no longer bugs the group
Plane of Mischief receives a significant revamp

I remember dieing on the run from Nek forest to Freeport at lvl 10 and begging for someone to loot my corpse and hoping they would return my so cherished possession (Dragoons dirk). LoL
I remember when you didnt have "friends" at high levels to help ya. Back when lvl 10 was the high level.

i remember after the patch where you could buy up to 20 things of the same item... before it was 1 at a time haha.

Saddest day for me ever... POM was a really neat place to try and get to (near the back of NTOV). I bound there as my Mage for the longest time (by the lava pool) gate hammer ftw, fishing cards, killing named for cards/loots etc. It had some really neat dynamics for it's time, and I still don't see much comparison to a zone like that today in any game. The revamp was in my opinion half assed and poorly done. Also nerfing half of the quest items... They weren't that over powered.
